College: Queens College

Education Level: Sophomore

Career Interest: Software Developer/ Web Developer

I am a college student studying computer science. I have been playing with computers since I was a very young child so it's all I know and I enjoy every second of it. I thoroughly enjoy learning about all of the different components that make up each computer, whether it's a normal desktop computer, a tiny motherboard on a phone, or a massive server rack, I love learning about how the components work together with the software. When I was younger I would crudely take apart our laptops and phones to see what's inside, now I repair old computers and build new ones for myself and my friends. My love for coding however started around middle school when I was first introduced to programming through a class. It was then that I discovered my passion for the inner workings and software that make computers what they are today. Since then, I have dedicated countless hours to learning different programming languages and building projects on my own. As I continue my education in computer science, I am excited to delve deeper into modern technologies like machine learning and computer vision. I am eager to apply these skills to real-world problems and help make a difference in people's lives. In my spare time I like to combine my hobbies and code programs that help make being an F1 fan, retro console enthusiast, and guitarist easier. Of course, there are times when I feel like being completely unproductive, and when that time comes I like to play videogames and simrace with friends or just spend hours playing guitar.

What was your role?

CS (SWE)

What did you work on?

What was the impact of your project?
Again, I am unsure of what project this refers to, but the current project we are working on is implementing an interface to edit past payment amounts. By allowing users to edit past payment amounts, this interface will help to rectify any mistakes or discrepancies that may have been made recording their payment amounts. Additionally, it will improve the quality of the Unadat site and provide users with greater flexibility and control over their usage of the site. More generally however, being a part of the features team I will contribute towards creating website features like the one mentioned above to help make the user experience more fluid and enjoyable while still maintaining the functionality of each feature (not prioritizing form over function).
What did you learn or improve on from this internship or from your teammates?
What skills have you gained?
I know a lot of tech companies rely on code sprints so this is definitely something I will be using in the future that I haven`t used before. Additionally, though I have a bit of experience in javascript, I will definitely be learning a lot more of it along with PHP and SQL.
What was the biggest roadblock you've overcome?
Though we haven`t really overcome many substantial roadblocks since we haven`t started developing any features yet, one thing the whole team overcame was tackling the issue of availability through communication.
How has company culture guided your work?
What was your experience at Unadat?
What was one big project you worked on during the internship? Can you walk me through the process?
What advice would you give to future interns?
Though I didn`t have any issues with it, I did notice on glassdoor a number of people complained that onboarding was a bit broad and left many things open/unanswered.
