My name is Shi Tao, I am currently a senior at Hunter College graduating in 2023. My current interests lies in Web Development working on front end. I am currently learning ThreeJS working on implementing 3D graphics onto website. Besides learning ThreeJS, I am also interested in learning iOS development as I am currently working on creating an invasive species application for my capstone project. A bit about my experience, I am currently a CUNY Tech Prep fellow which is a year-long technical and professional development program for Cuny CS majors learning full stack development. Learning tools like React.js, Node + Express and PostgresQL. My last internship was at the Department of Transportation making a geocoding application that converts NYC addresses into coordinates and mapping it to a map for the Assets management team working alongside 3 other people. Outside of CS, I enjoy spending time out with my friends eating food and playing games. I also enjoy exploring different places.

What did you work on?

What was the impact of your project?

I haven`t worked on a project with the team yet, but one personal project I worked on is a geocoding application for my previous internship at NYC DOT. The geocoding allows the employees at DOT to efficiently mark addresses into point on the maps. This project helped me develop skills in working with teams and helped improve my communication.

What did you learn or improve on from this internship or from your teammates?

What skills have you gained?

So far, a new skills that I have picked up is learning to "test" a website. For our first task we needed to go through the website and write what we liked and don`t like about the features of the website. I have learned to dive deep into a website and test the website for bugs and think of new features to add.

What was the biggest roadblock you've overcome?

Currently, I have yet to tasked with a project to work on. But I believe in the future, I will be faced with a roadblock. I believe one roadblock I will face is time management and organization with my current school work.

What advice would you give to future interns?

One onboarding advice I would give is to definitely setting up early contact so the interns will have a easier time to settle in with information and the onboarding process.
