Jun Huang

College: Hunter College

Education Level: Junior

Career Interest: Software Developer

I am currently a junior at Hunter College, pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. My interest in coding and programming started back in my junior year of high school, and it quickly became a passion of mine. I have always seen this field as my future career, as I find the process of creating and building digital solutions immensely rewarding. While my studies and career aspirations are a significant focus in my life, I also make sure to allocate time to unwind and engage in hobbies that I enjoy. One such hobby is playing video games, although I admit that I am not particularly skilled at it. However, playing video games with my closest friends is an activity that we all enjoy and look forward to. We share a lot of laughter and bond over the experience. Another hobby that I enjoy is traveling with my friends. We have been to different parts of the country together, and we recently went out of the country for the first time to visit the Bahamas during our winter break. The experience was nothing short of amazing, and it was an excellent opportunity to explore new cultures and environments.

What was your role?

CS (SWE)

What did you work on?

What was the impact of your project?
As a member of the features team, I anticipate being involved in the development of various features for the website, as suggested by the team’s name. At this early stage, it appears that we have yet to commence the goal setting and master huddle meeting. I am eagerly looking forward to these meetings as they will provide more clarity and context for my team’s work.
What did you learn or improve on from this internship or from your teammates?
What skills have you gained?
Since a good chunk of the project involves PHP I recently just started to learn it from scratch . After a good few hours into the language I finds out it was better than what others have told me about this language.
What was the biggest roadblock you've overcome?
One of my biggest roadblock so far is definitely catch up with the current code base. I would not say I have 100% overcome it yet, but it is a working progress. Like mentioned before I dive into learning PHP in order to better understand the code base, and even though I am still familiarizing myself with all the codes, I do feel more comfortable now.
How has company culture guided your work?
What was your experience at Unadat?
What was one big project you worked on during the internship? Can you walk me through the process?
What advice would you give to future interns?
I would definitely say if they are solo developer and never worked on a big project before, do not get scared by the existing code base. It will take efforts to get familiar with everything going on, but it should not stop you from starting.
