College: Baruch College

Education Level: Senior

Career Interest: Data Analytics/Data Science

I am a first-generation Bangladeshi student at CUNY Baruch College. I am currently a senior majoring in Financial Mathematics with a minor in Political Science. Throughout my life, I’ve always attained a significant interest in mathematics, and learning about different ways to solve a problem while also recognizing the real-world connection (through programming) has always left me feeling intrigued into deepening my math skills. After my time at Allstate, I was introduced to the world of insurance and finance while cultivating this curiosity in wanting to learn more about the mathematics behind insurance pricing and developing my data analysis skills along the way. Involved with various extracurricular activities and leadership programs at Baruch, I’ve always had a passion to help others and contribute positively to any team/group work. I always set high standards for myself and face challenges with an opportunity to grow and enhance my skills. Throughout my experiences, I’ve built upon my time management, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills while also gaining experience within the professional world to further adapt myself to any work environment. During my free time, I enjoy engaging in fitness activities, basketball, reading, and occasionally cooking.

What was your role?

iPM/CS

What did you work on?

What was the impact of your project?
The impact of my project is mainly allowing users to have accessibility to goals through the goal stores and being allowed to select and add goals to their account. This will give users the flexibility to be able to create their own goals or follow suggested goals based on their financial wellness. It allows them to have guidance to solve financial issues and also gives the user a focus on what area they need to look into in order to improve their finances. This project mainly consists of using front-end development software such as HTML/CSS/JavaScript which will all help build this feature of the site.
What did you learn or improve on from this internship or from your teammates?
What skills have you gained?
I have a better understanding of how to use Google Cloud Shell. It reminds me a lot of GitHub and shares similarities as well. I`ve also learned about Jira and how to use the software. It seems to be a very productive product and an easy way to keep track of the goals within the team. It was also great to learn more about the Scrum technique in order to keep track of tasks and reach certain goals.
What was the biggest roadblock you've overcome?
The biggest roadblock I`ve overcome so far is getting a better understanding of the software I will use. I found it interesting and a bit daunting for all the programs that I might need to know, but after going through some of the training, I gained a general sense of how each of the software (that I would be using) works.
How has company culture guided your work?
What was your experience at Unadat?
What was one big project you worked on during the internship? Can you walk me through the process?
What advice would you give to future interns?
I`m not sure what onboarding advice I`d give because everything went well for me and I was able to have a good understanding of the tasks I have to do and the software to use. I`d say that it would be nice if the interns were more familiar with the software they`d use ahead of time so that they can get a head start on any work.
