Amira Abdelmohsen

College: Hunter College

Education Level: Sophomore

Career Interest: Tech

Hey there! I'm Amira, a sophomore at Hunter College. When I am not lost in a whirlwind of 24 unrelated tabs on my laptop, you will probably find me brewing up some coffee or diving into a new hobby (currently checking on my broccoli sprouts!). My favorite food is sushi, which is honestly kind of cheating because there are just soooo many varieties—great because now I will never get sick of eating it! Oh, and did I mention my secret ambition to use technology to save the world? Still working on the cape though...

What was your role?

Milestones page and user analytics (frontend, backend, and PMing).

What did you work on?

Milestones page improvements.

What was the impact of your project?
What did you learn or improve on from this internship or from your teammates?
I have learned how to collaborate with others while working on a project. It is not always easy getting your point across when different people on your team have different specialties and interests. I learned a lot from the differences in perspectives.
What skills have you gained?
Some new skills I have picked during my internship at Unadat are working with PHP and SQL, which I never thought I would love doing but, although I struggled a lot, the results were rewarding. I also learned some PMing skills and using platforms like Linear. I also feel more comfortable now voicing my feedback and opinions/preferences in meetings.
What was the biggest roadblock you've overcome?
The biggest roadblock I had to overcome was during the week of the Eid holiday. I had many roadblocks like assignments, getting sick, and of course, taking the time to celebrate Eid. But I think the biggest issue was asking for help and admitting that I could not finish my tasks as perfectly and quickly as I had hoped. I always have trouble asking for help but this was an eye opening experience, thanks to the supportive environment at Unadat.
How has company culture guided your work?
It made me look into things that I did not think would interest me but they actually ended up being interesting. The flexibility of which project I can work on has helped me tremendously. I was able to meet all my learning objectives.
What was your experience at Unadat?
What was one big project you worked on during the internship? Can you walk me through the process?
What advice would you give to future interns?
Always ask for help and clarification--you will feel so much better afterwards.
