What was your role?

At my time at Unadat, I was included in the Wizards Team and I was closely working with two other interns. I was instructed to familiarize myself with the Figma platform in order to effectively utilize this graphic design tool. I was asked to creatively implement this solution so that I can create a well designed in-store website for Unadat. In addition, I was told to identify errors and technical flaws of the Unadat website so that the web development team was knowledgeable of what bugs and mistakes to correct in the company’s site.

What did you learn or improve on from this internship or from your teammates?

My teammates played a crucial role in me understanding what all members are currently working on and they were more than willing to answer any questions and speak about concerns that I had. Also, they made sure that I knew how to complete the role that I was given and they provided me with instructions and online resources that I utilized in order to complete the work the very best that I could. They also evaluated my skill set and strengths in order to assign a task that would be the most appropriate for me to complete given my personal circumstances.

What skills have you gained?

The skills that I developed at this internship include effectively communicating and actively participating with my assigned team members in a way that ensures productivity and time management are always being prioritized. In addition, I learned how to find innovative solutions towards the problems experienced by the company by actively listening towards the suggestions of my collaborators and then presenting my resolution respectfully while also considering the comments made by all participants.

What was the biggest roadblock you've overcome?

The biggest challenge that I overcame was having the courage to ask for help and assistance when facing personal challenges including being disabled. Even in college, I struggle to ask my professors and peers for support when being stuck on an assignment or not understanding what to do. The culture of this company made me feel comfortable and welcomed to voice my concerns and honestly convey my perspective on what challenges I am facing and my preference of how to proceed with working in the company. The staff were very approachable and I overcame. Being hesitant in asking for guidance whenever necessary and instructing others when I am struggling to complete a certain task.

How has company culture guided your work?

The company culture has guided my work since I attended multiple meetings on Discord that included the main staff and interns from other teams so that we can set weekly goals and inform each other about the progress that we are creating on our assigned projects. These meetings updated me about the main objectives and tasks that the company was currently focused on completing multiple times per week.

What advice would you give to future interns?

My advice is to always communicate with staff and team officials whenever facing personal challenges in order to become properly accommodated during scheduling conflicts so that you can complete work effectively while also managing academic and personal responsibilities.
