What did you learn or improve on from this internship or from your teammates?

My teammates at Unadat have been a rich source of learning throughout my internship. From my peers, I learned best practices when it came to security threats while working on web development, gaining a deeper understanding of input sanitization. Additionally, my peers taught me the importance of effective teamwork, time management, and communication skills in a fast-paced tech environment. Moreover, their diverse backgrounds in other areas of software engineering and perspectives broadened my horizons, enabling me to approach problem-solving from various angles. Overall, my interactions with teammates have not only enhanced my technical proficiency but also enriched my professional and interpersonal skills.

What skills have you gained?

During my Unadat internship, I had the opportunity to acquire several valuable skills. I delved into PHP, gaining proficiency in web development, and also explored Jquery for enhancing user interfaces. Additionally, I honed my skills in SQL, bolstering my ability to work with databases effectively.

What was the biggest roadblock you've overcome?

The most significant roadblock I encountered during my Unadat internship was working with git. There have been times I worked several hours on a branch and had to use code that someone else wrote without realizing it was dependent on a different version of the code base leading to many many hours of fruitless debugging. When I finally checked in with my peers I had this suspicion that earlier I screwed up merging my branch so I eventually told my teammates and it got resolved.

How has company culture guided your work?

The emphasis on open communication and a supportive team environment encouraged me to actively seek feedback, share ideas, and work cohesively with colleagues. This culture of continuous improvement not only fueled my personal and professional growth but also contributed to the success of the projects I was involved in.

What advice would you give to future interns?

Please try to read the documentation extensively during the onboarding and if you have 0 knowledge of any backend development you can refer to challenges_backend.php for some example code to look at. Learn the importance of input sanitization and protecting against SQL injection. Ask Dan for help as a CS whenever you get stuck.
