What was your role?

One of the bigger projects I worked on was overhauling the backend for editing a user`s account. This involved cleaning up and consolidating existing code and implementing SQL transactions across the site. I also added the existing notification system on a few parts of the supporters page.

What did you learn or improve on from this internship or from your teammates?

My teammates have helped me further my understanding of Git, and how to merge our new changes to the existing codebase so that future users and interns can see our contributions. They have helped me better understand how AJAX requests are made on the frontend, and then handled on the backend, then displayed back to the frontend. They also helped understand jQuery.

What skills have you gained?

For technical skills, I`ve learned PHP, AJAX, and SQL all for the first time. I`ve furthered my understanding of how the frontend and backend communicate with one another, as well as how requests are handled. As for soft skills, the scrum methodology that Unadat uses has helped with my collaboration and communication.

What was the biggest roadblock you've overcome?

The biggest roadblock I`ve overcome was understanding how to merge my current changes to the existing codebase. Trying it initially, I was greeted with a bunch of errors and wasn`t sure how to solve them. Instead, I asked my teammates for help who were also struggling, and eventually we worked through the problem together and successfully merged our incoming changes.

How has company culture guided your work?

Unadat`s emphasis on open communication and collaboration has certainly encouraged me to seek feedback from my peers and PM. This helped me approach with a more holistic mindset to my work.
