What was your role?

Creating challenges that users can make with their friends so they can compete to save money. Specifically, I worked on storing the contents of the challenge in the database, and then retrieving the data to be displayed on the website. I also created the functionality that allowed users to join challenges when invited.

What did you work on?

What was the impact of your project?
What did you learn or improve on from this internship or from your teammates?
I learned several things from my teammates. I learned how to communicate effectively so the team was always updated with my work. I also learned how to bring enthusiasm and personality to help lighten up the mood and create a sense of bond between a team. I also learned many programming-related tips, and how to program certain things. Finally, my teammates also taught me how to collaborate with others better.
What skills have you gained?
I have learned how to collaborate well with my team, and how to communicate effectively. I have learned to ask questions when I am not sure about my task, and also to give feedback and opinions on my task. I have also learned how to combine work and merge things on branches as well as help others when needed. I have also learned a new language called PHP, and this was my first time ever working with a database so learning SQL was a lot of fun for me, as I learned how to insert data and select data for retrieval. I also learned how to connect backend and frontend through the use of AJAX functions as well as some frontend things such as creating popups.
What was the biggest roadblock you've overcome?
The biggest roadblock I overcame was learning how to work with SQL on my own. I needed to send data from the database into the frontend so it could be displayed but it involved some complicated SQL statements so learning how to do that was a challenge and it took several tries, but I was able to succeed.
How has company culture guided your work?
The company`s culture of teamwork has helped me collaborate with my teammates, and we were able to split our work to work faster. We were also able to divide work according to our strengths. Communication was another big part of the company culture. I kept my project manager and teammates informed of what I was doing and anything I needed help with.
What was your experience at Unadat?
What was one big project you worked on during the internship? Can you walk me through the process?
What advice would you give to future interns?
My advice is to read a lot about the technology that you are going to use, and be sure to refer to the code when you need to do a task, because a lot of times there are similar tasks that have already been performed. Don`t be afraid even if you haven`t used any of these things before because most people are exactly the same as you, and you can always ask Daniel and Sean for help.
