What was your role?

I worked on debugging as well as porting features from the website to the app.

What was the impact of your project?

What did you learn or improve on from this internship or from your teammates?

One thing I learned was how to navigate git, which was very helpful. Something that I better understood through this was that communication is key. Staying in communication with your team helps everybody understand where exactly we sit in our projects.

What skills have you gained?

Throughout the entirety of the internship, system analysis was developed immensely. This proved to be incredibly important particularly when debugging since without these skills, I wouldn’t be able to figure out how to fix certain code. Due to the remote nature of this internship, time management was something that had to be developed as well.

What was the biggest roadblock you've overcome?

My biggest roadblock had to do with porting the badges from the website to the app. It took a long time because some data wasn`t transferring correctly and I was being too hard-headed about trying to figure it out on my own. I overcame this by actually trying to get help and working alongside others to eventually figure out what exactly had to be done by deducing what data was and was not transferring and fixing it accordingly.

How has company culture guided your work?

Company culture allowed for easy communication during independent work. Having a teammate or a higher-up available to provide assistance while not having somebody hovering over me gave me a sense of ease when it came to doing my work.

What advice would you give to future interns?

Do not be afraid to let your team know (that includes the CEO & CTO) when you are struggling with something! Being honest about when you are having trouble allows your team to be able to help you with whatever it is you are dealing with.
