What was your role?

I was a Project Manager and CS Developer for the App team. Team app has been responsible from porting the Unadat.com website features to a PWA application. We`ve ported features such as Avatars, Badges, Chores List, FWS and then used tools like Google Lighthouse to improve reliability and fix bugs. I was mainly responsible for Avatars, framing of Badges, and Google Lighthouse.

What did you work on?

What was the impact of your project?
What did you learn or improve on from this internship or from your teammates?
I`ve learned to be flexible with my hours and my work. I`ve learned an incredible amount of time management and teamwork. My teammates are good at things that I`m not, for example - How code changes we make could affect another team. Taking this into account when I`m coding helped me be more efficient in a way I could prevent problems from occurring in the future.
What skills have you gained?
The most important and large skill I`ve picked up is leadership and learning agile/scrum. Coming into this internship I only expected to code and work on the development side of things. When I was offered a PM role alongside my CS role it inspired me more than ever. I made it clear I had no experience with leadership, aside from directing friends in a group project. Sean and Dan guided me on how to deal with high pressure situations and defuse potentially volatile situations. I learned to be efficient with iPMing in a way which would produce good results and have a happy team. The happy team is the important part!
What was the biggest roadblock you've overcome?
The biggest roadblock I encountered personally was adjusting to the codebase of Unadat during the code review. It was a lot to look at and take in the first few weeks. I overcame this by categorizing and narrowing down which files would apply to my team and project. However, this roadblock would still be there if it wasn`t for my team. The hours where we were sat in a Discord call learning AJAX functions and learning about PHP were the most helpful and contributing. Teamwork makes the dream work!
How has company culture guided your work?
I love working with people, usually CS minded people are stereotyped as being introverted and working by themselves. However, I loved working across teams and being able to directly learn from the CEO and CTO of the company. When executives are directly involved in the product I feel that it has the best possible outcome. Sean and Dan replying to messages within 5 minutes was also a relief and made working with tough situations very helpful.
What was your experience at Unadat?
What was one big project you worked on during the internship? Can you walk me through the process?
What advice would you give to future interns?
My advice is to be proactive and express your interest. Always express your concerns to your team and declare roadblocks as possible. This creates a healthy work environment where everyone can meet expectations and have competent deliverables.
